J. Hackett is a native of Philadelphia, PA and is the Executive Director of Green Opportunities, a job training and placement program serving the region’s underprivileged populations. J. came to Asheville on a scholarship from American Red Cross, after being recognized as Volunteer of the year. Over the course of his career as a business owner and leader, he has worked with the Department of Juvenile Justice, the Department of Labor, the Department of Commerce, in addition to collaborations with anchor institutions and businesses here in Western NC. J. also serves the community as pastor of New Mt Olive Baptist Church. His scholarship resides in leadership using ancient wisdom to inspire a present generation, using the power of relevant and effective programming. After being incarcerated and re-entering society as an executive, he faces re-entry issues similar to most African-American males. Holding multiple degrees and certificates, J. has been educated at UNC Asheville, University of Ghana in West Africa, Duke University, and Lenoir-Rhyne University. He resides in Asheville with his wife, Lacy, and three children: Empress-Imani, Heiress-Royale and Lorde-Sebastian Hackett.
